Downplaying Our Gifts, Blessings & Intelligence so other's won't feel insecure doesn't serve God & to serve God is why Man was created. Our psyche is an obscure entity; We convince Ourselves We're afraid to fail when in actuality We're afraid to succeed. "As A Man Thinketh In His Heart So Is He" We owe it to the Creator to reach Our full potential.  I've heard to Whom much is given, much is Required but I also believe that He who suffers Greatly is rewarded in the same fashion; if You believe in God, He believes in You, remain steadfast & persevere.
